It's pretty emergent ( and probably sounds more f*cked up than factual) but this idea of building a tribe of people to help them better connect with each other and the systems they're a part of. MTB, skateboarding, BMX, surfing--it's less about "winning" than it is about realizing potential, progression of form, and expanding their own (mental and physical) possibilities. Part of it is using these sports and the people who hold a passionate vision for them to impact the world. Whether it's at-risk kids and families in Pittsburgh, it's intergenerational places and spaces in Chicago and Seattle, or I'm looking to work with folks interested in using their products, services and brands for doing some subversively good things... So, if this sounds interesting I'm happy to share more. (see my Twitter profile @petewendel for background. ) If not, I'm still looking forward to visiting Transition bikes in May re: the Scout. Cheers!

Love it when author & Phelps point out skateboarding operates outside the logic of the orderly, sanitized world. A tribe of people that see and use everyday places and objects as a kind of third space. (Stairs, rails, streets...all open for reinterpretation)... There's something similar to MTB-- when you get tools to build a community to fun and progression; it's putting something into someone's hands that's fun but also challenges them, makes them explore and want to progress--that changes people... It's kinda where I see Transition standing out apart from others. It's the real shit, tools for fun and progression.

Hey there, Kevin. I had one of the first Dirbags to prob every see the Midwest RIGHT when you first released them quite awhile ago! Got it from Allen at DNZ. So just a quick thanks for the first full suspension bike I ever owned and for kick starting my lifestyle!
But I'm considering coming "back home" to Transition Bikes via the TR450. I'm liking what you guys have done with it. I was hoping you knew what an average weight is on them? Also, I see you're pushing them hard as a race rig..they'll handle some serious play as well, right? Not really a hucker or anything, just like to get my groove on!
